Well, Some People Move at Their Own Pace

“Isn’t it strange,” asks independent mayoral candidate Gary Jenkins, “that after nearly 12 years in office and millions of dollars in contracts awarded, that as Election Day rapidly approaches, the mayor thinks now would be a good time to look at how the city awards contracts?” Jenkins posed the question in a press release about assorted ethics problems Mayor John DeStefano has had recently. (Click here for one Jenkins neglected to mention.) Jenkins will be able to ask DeStefano himself about “strange” questions, and DeStefano will have the chance to do likewise in return, when mayoral candidates meet at an NAACP-sponsored debate Thursday night at Wexler School. Advice to Jenkins: Come prepared with specific examples if you want to repeat charges about, for instance, department heads living out of town. Otherwise we can’t report them.
