A New Boss for Leaky Roof, Inc.

New Haven’s troubled housing authority has a new boss. The authority’s board voted this morning to approve the hiring of Jimmy Miller, who runs a 1,000-unit public-housing complex in Philadelphia called Friends Rehabilitation Program Inc. Before that Miller was deputy director of Newark’s housing authority, according to New Haven authority Commissioner Bob Solomon. “He knows a lot about housing, a lot about people,” Solomon said of Miller. “He has a history and real strong belief and integrity. He really knows basics about housing management, like how to keep the roof from falling in or garbage picked up, which has not been our strong suit, as you know. The problem isn’t the development side, where we have a strong team. The problem is the day-to-day management.” Miller will replace interim Executive Director Regina Winters, who’s returning to her private architect’s practice.
