Judgement Day for Crack & Smut Violators

A crack dealer nicknamed “Red” learned today that he’ll be spending a long time in federal prison. A federal judge sentenced Red (aka 35-year-old Julius Moorning) to 210 months in jail — that’s 17 years — then five years of supervised release. Moorning pleaded guilty to October of 2004 to the crack-dealing charge. Federal projectors called him a leader of a major ring in town. “Mr. Moorning and his associates were responsible the sale of a significant amount of crack, damaging the quality of life for residents of several neighborhoods in New Haven,” U.S. Attorney Kevin O’Connor stated in a press release issued today. “This substantial sentence should send a message to all who are involved, or are thinking about getting involved, in the distribution of illegal narcotics in Connecticut. The federal penalities for these crimes are severe.” In a separate case, another federal judge Thursday sentenced a New Haven man named Seth Zowader, also 35, to 24 months in jail, then three years of supervised release, for possessing child pornography. During his period of supervised release, he will not be permitted to associate with anyone under 18 without the supervision of another adult who’s aware of the conviction.
