Police Tuesday afternoon were pursuing leads in connection with a disturbing shooting a short distance from Worthington Hooker Middle School on State Street. The shooting occurred at 8 a.m. at 1 Eld St., less than a block from the school. Fortunately it happened well before school started. A few staff people and students were in the school, so the school was locked down. The shooting was “completely” unrelated to the school, according to police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester. The victim, 26 years old, was shot several times and had multiple wounds; he was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition. William Kaempffer has more details in Wednesday morning’s Register; click here to read his story.
