Graduation Day

by Paul Bass | December 4, 2005 1:54 PM |

It was graduation day this week for Gloria Vega (above at right) and 20 other New Haveners looking to help grow the local economy bit by bit. They completed a computer training program run by the Spanish American Merchants Association, the eighth such class to learn hands-on skills they can bring back to boost new and growing small businesses. They learned to use Quickbooks, keep track of inventory, run payroll, balance the books. Vega, 29, said at the Thursday event on Grand Avenue that she plans to join her husband’s home improvement firm. The class includes entrepreneurs opening food and fashion businesses, among others. Sponsors of the SAMA program include Empower New Haven, NewAlliance Foundation, Allstate, and Capital Workforce Partners.
