Where Stolen Cars End Up

All that commotion by the West River off the Boulevard Wednesday — police cruisers, Channel 8’s helicopter, police divers — had a happy ending of sorts. After a jeep had been discovered in the water, the divers were looking for a possible dead body. There wasn’t one. Turns out someone stole the jeep from East Haven, took it for a joyride, drove it toward the water, then bailed out. Later Wednesday, around 9 p.m., police caught up with another stolen car, on the other side of town. This one was stuck in traffic, by Quinnipiac Avenue and Route 80, not in the water. The cops caught up with the car moments after receiving a report of a carjacking at gunpoint. They arrested the car’s two occupants, a 19 year-old man and a 15 year-old girl. They also recovered the weapon; it turned out to be a fake handgun.
