Obama Mocks Joe

Democratic superstar Barack Obama made a point of defending his fellow U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman from hecklers when Obama headlined the annual JJB dinner in Hartford Thursday night. But, reports the Courant’s Mark Pazniokis, then he accidentally stuck it to Joe — and reminded hecklers and others in the room at the state Democratic Party’s annual shindig why they’re supporting Lieberman’s party challenger Ned Lamont: “Obama later mocked Lieberman, most likely inadvertently, when he described Bush as measuring progress in Iraq in terms of the increasing number of cellphones in use there, but ignoring the number of flag-draped coffins arriving at Andrews Air Force Base. Bush, in fact, had quoted Lieberman who, upon returning from Iraq last fall, had remarked on the number of cellphones he had seen in use.” Meanwhile, the Lieberman camp is playing coy about whether he’d ditch the Dems and run as an independent in November if he loses a primary against Lamont.
