Today’s Spin

John DeStefano knows he’s not going to out-“clean” Republican Jodi Rell as he tries to unseat her as governor. So while he took the opportunity to call attention Wednesday to the news that 16 of her appointees have been ordered to pay fines for election law violations, DeStefano spun the news to stronger turf for his Democratic campaign. “Gov. Rell’s Administration has earned a dubious distinction by having so many top commissioners and deputy commissioners fined,” he said in a statement issued by his campaign. “But even more troubling is the governor’s failure to help families make ends meet. People I talk with across Connecticut say they’re concerned about paying their mortgage, providing health care for their children, and keeping the heat on during the winter. The governor just doesn’t seem to understand the insecurity facing the average working family in Connecticut. That is the real indictment of the Rell Administration.”
