Two young men were shot and five were stabbed in a spurt of violence in Dixwell on Easter Sunday. At about 9 p.m., several callers reported gunfire in the area of Webster Street. A 35-year-old man from Dixwell turned up shortly after at Yale-New Haven Hospital suffering gunshot wounds. He said someone had shot him near 24 Foote St. from a passing car. Police tracked down a vehicle matching the one he described. The owners ditched the car and ran, but police searched the neighborhood, found a 40-caliber handgun, and arrested five teenagers on weapons and police interference charges. A second shooting victim, a 16-year-old man from Edgewood Avenue, turned up at St. Raphael’s hospital, too. Police said the two shootings were related but did not say how. … Elsewhere in Dixwell, at 40 Henry St., a man apparently became belligerent after he was asked to leave a party early Sunday, shortly after midnight. The man apparently stabbed five young men in their 20s, one of whom said he was trying to break things up. All victims reported to St. Raphael’s with non-life-threatening injuries. The man fired his handgun as he left the scene, but did not shoot anyone, police said. The man was not arrested and victims were “extremely vague and uncooperative” in identifying him, said police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester.
