Meet The Trash Turtle

by Paul Bass | April 21, 2006 9:19 AM |

Her name is Trudy. She’s a turtle-shaped igloo-like creature who appeared in Edgewood Park this week. Kids on break from school gathered garbage from throughout the park and built her. The kids were organized by a great environmental group called Solar Youth, which held a three-day “summit” for “urban youth” in the park. They built Trudy “to show others how much trash and recyclables are left in the park by visitors, which disturbs the fragile ecosystems and species who call the park their home.” Meet Trudy and the kids who built her Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the park’s gazebo at West Rock and Whalley avenues. There’ll be a barbecue and a chance to tie your own trash to Trudy.
