Bronx Bombers Ease Traffic Duty

The Yankees won their home opener Tuesday afternoon with New Haven Police Officer Carlos Roman cheering them on. Roman had the game blaring from the open passenger door of his rented Kia Optima while he directed traffic at a construction site at Lock and Canal streets. He occasionally turned the car on to keep the battery juiced. Derek Jeter hit a bottom-of-the-eighth homer to lead the Yanks to a 9-7 victory over the Royals, reported Roman, a Stamford native who’s been rooting for the pinstripes since 1978. “If you get a chance,” he said, “watch ESPN tonight. It was a hell of a game. They were losing 7-4.” Roman’s favorite player? “Derek Jeter,” of course.
