Egypt was one of the 35 countries whose native dress were modeled and whose melodies were plucked, trumpeted, and pounded out by school musicians in the 14th annual International Day at Davis Friday. Besides creating a wall exhibit representing the culture, members of the “Egypt” class took the Davis stage to run through the basics of ancient mummification rituals.

and this first-grade gaucho-for-a-day Carlos Flores shared that Argentina has donkeys.

From fourth-grade Irish blokes Charlie Delgado (left) and Sean Addy, we learned about leprechauns: “It takes the form of an old man. It likes to cause a lot of mischief. It’s job is a shoeshiner—“ - “Shoemaker!” corrected Delgado — “If you keep your eyes on it it won’t disappear, but if you take your eyes off it it goes away.”

The Dominican Republic,

Nigeria,

and the United States were not forgotten.

Mayor John Destefano and Davis principal Lola Nathan took turns on the mic to praise the community’s rich multiculturalism, and its generosity: donations were collected for kids in Haiti. Principal Nathan also praised the post-renovation day when close-packed Davis celebrators might enjoy AC.
