Best Of New Haven, The Party

The Advocate celebrated its “Best of New Haven” poll results Wednesday night by unveiling a new T-shirt at a party at Bar, where people ate free pizza, grooved to live power pop, and, given the journos crawling around the place, had their pictures taken a lot.
Janna Wagner showed up amid last-minute preparations for a Thursday night fund-raising soiree for her own outfit, All Our Kin, which just moved to the Grand Avenue Victorian vacated by Community Mediation. Alderman Alex Rhodeen (D-Everywhere At Once) squeezed in a Bar stop in between checking out the goats and sheep at a Common Ground High event as well as a cameo at the City Plan Commission meeting.
Jennifer McTiernan H. (center in photo) also found time for the party in the final days before the first head of lettuce is tossed for the opening of this year’s CitySeed Farmer’s Market in Wooster Square.
The party took place in Bar’s back room, where a few years back the Advocate’s must-read theater critic Christopher Arnott (at left) switched hats and directed an unforgettable stage version of Lenny Bruce’s 1964 obscenity trial. Wednesday night he bumped into former newsroom neighbor Dawn Mosher, one of several Advo alums who made it to the party.
Publisher Josh Mamis was a gracious and hard-working host, greeting readers, shooting photos and handing out T-shirts.
Critics’ choice Caveman Go electrified the room with Ray Davies-style tuneful and ryhtmic pop…
… boosted by Chrissie Hynde attitude on keyboards.
