NOW Backs Lamont

Some of Joe Lieberman’s red-state outrages came home to haunt him Tuesday, when the National Organization for Women endorsed Ned Lamont, the challenger seeking to unseat the senator in a Democratic primary. NOW’s reasons included Lieberman’s alliance with the far right in seeking intervention to prolong Terry Schiavo’s life; his opposition to gay marriage; his support for right-wing Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s nomination when it really counted; and his opposition to a state effort to force publicly funded hospitals to offer a contraception pill to rape victims.
