R.I.P. Mazda, Tree

by Melissa Bailey | May 9, 2006 8:34 AM |

This man’s Mazda and the rotting tree that crushed it can now rest in peace. So said a magistrate ruling in Min Zhao’s favor in his beef with the city over who got compensated, and didn’t, when a long-doomed tree on Humphrey Street took a damaging fall. “The city had long since recognized the danger posed by the tree in question and failed, in any timely manner whatsoever” to remove the tree, wrote magistrate Robert Bown in his decision. Bown ordered the city to compensate Zhao $4,200 for his totaled car. “Thankfully, when the life of this tired old giant came to an end, only a Mazda stood between it and its final nap! May they both rest in peace.”
