Whalley Woes

A man delivering hot pies near upper Whalley Avenue at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday became the second pizza delivery man to be robbed at gunpoint in one month. The delivery man from Spooners Restaurant went looking for a fictitious address on Lawncrest Road, near Glen View Terrace, when someone called “pizza!” from a nearby porch. The shouter pulled out a gun and stole the man’s money, cell phone and two hot pizzas. When the startled delivery man dropped his car keys, the suspects snatched them up and drove off in his 2005 car. Police found the car around midnight. … A few hours later, at 1350 Whalley Ave., a mugger attacked a penniless man at a bus stop and ended up with a knife wound. The victim told police he was waiting at the bus stop around 1:45 a.m. Thursday when a man pulled out a knife and forced over his wallet. “The guy took the wallet but was extremely disappointed when he opened it,” said police. The mugger tried to stab the victim with a knife but self-defense tactics prevailed — the mugger, with his own knife sticking into his leg, ran off. M.B.
