Yale-New Haven Hospital CEO Marna Borgstrom put pen to paper Tuesday, sealing the deal with the city to build a long-awaited, $430 million, state-of-the-art cancer center. “We’re just delighted that you advised us and supported us all the way through,” said Borgstrom, signing a development agreement during a press event at Mayor John DeStefano’s office Tuesday afternoon. The signing came after the Board of Aldermen approved the final key documents Monday night — a community benefits agreement and land disposition agreement. “The real accomplishment here is we worked together and never lost sight of the ball,” said DeStefano. Demolition on the Grace Building has already begun, with a groundbreaking scheduled for September. The hospital hopes to open the center by the end of 2009, said Borgstrom, pausing between celebratory hugs with aldermen and city staff.
