Sunday morning on Dickerman Street, a day after the death of a 13 year-old girl caught in the crossfire of a shooting on the block: Praises from the choir at Mt. Zion Church filled the air. Thirteen year-old Krystal Hammett (middle photo), who also got shot, wrestled with her physical and emotional scars; her best friend was the one who died. (Click here to read her tale.) And “Grandma Ruth” (bottom photo) talked about life on the street, and what needs to happen next; click here for the view from her front porch. Meanwhile, police have arrested four teen-aged suspects in the shooting. And click here and here to watch videos Tom Ficklin made of a prayer vigil on Dickerman Street this weekend.
