John Brinkley and Ernest Hampton were up in the air Thursday capping the stone piers at the entrance to the newest section of the Farmington Canal bike trail at Henry and Canal streets. The day’s growing closer when the trail will connect all the way from downtown New Haven to Hamden and Cheshire. Brinkley (in top photo), who owns Brinkley Mason Contractors, said he hasn’t yet brought his 10 speed to the trail for a pleasure ride from his Winthrop Avenue home a mile away. “I don’t have much time,” he said. If he does visit the trail, he said, he’ll probably walk it, not ride it.
