A Poor Report Card

A whopping 27 percent of New Haven lives below the poverty line, according to new Census Bureau stats. It’s worse for kids: 40 percent of New Haveners under 18 are poor. Click here for the breakdown for New Haven. The stats show 9.3 of the state living below the federal poverty level; the rate for children is 12.4 percent. The bureau reports 11.3 percent of the state, or 394,000 people, without health insurance.
