Uma To Hit Elm City

If you see this familiar Hollywood face crossing Chapel Street in September, hit the brakes — it’s Uma! Actress Uma Thurman and a production crew will be rolling cameras in downtown New Haven and Westville in the next two months, filming scenes for a movie called In Bloom. The film, directed by Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog), will be shot in a Westville middle school and a stretch of downtown Chapel Street near Yale University, according to production company In Bloom, LLC.

Thurman (of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill fame) plays Diane McFee, a young woman “whose life is affected by a tragic event from her past,” says In Bloom location manager Michael Nickodem in a letter to city hall. Scenes in New Haven revolve around the fictional Briar Hill High School, where Diana’s life is “changed forever by a tragic school shooting.”

Cameras will first roll into town Aug. 21 to Westville’s Fountain Street for scenes inside and outside the Sheridan Middle School. There, a younger actress, Evan Rachel Wood will play Diana at age 16, joined by Eva Amurri (The Banger Sisters). For Uma sightings hang out on Chapel Street in late September (the 18th and 19th are tentative filming dates). In the proposed scene, Thurman buys ice cream at the Chapel Sweet Shoppe and visits her husband at his office in Yale’s Vanderbilt Hall. Crossing Chapel Street to see her husband, she gets hit — but not seriously injured — by a car. Real traffic will be “intermittently held” to accommodate the crash.

Heres another idea for that scene...

Thurman buys ice cream at the Chapel Sweet Shoppe..attempting to cross Chapel Street, she steps into the street and is almost hit by the motorcade of an aging Senator (who is speeding deperately away from another disastrously flaccid campaign rally.) Just before she is struck, Thurman is pulled from certain death by a young, handsome business man who is, coincidentally, running for the Senators seat. Thurman and the candidate fall in love, and they both go to Washington ater he wins the election; the former Senator gets retirement and, unlike the majority of Americans, a very good pension including health benefits.
