Numbers Don’t Lie

Downtown New Haven is safe, not to mention fun. So say the numbers, now that a summer’s worth of Saturday night blockbuster concerts has ended, concluding with a tight, bright and soaring performance this past weekend by T.S. Monk right before the rains came. Week after week, tens of thousands of people from all walks of life converged on New Haven’s Green to hear a general pop concert series, then the jazz festival series. And no major problems were reported. Just good vibes. The numbers of attendees for the six weeks, according to organizers: 30,000, 40,000, 40,000, 20,000, 35,000, and 15,000 (the last night marred by rain showers during the headlining act).
