Boulevard, Lawrence St., Hit

Two crashes on the Ella Grasso Boulevard this weekend, where “rubber duckies” have been placed to prevent speeders from killing people.
A passenger remained in serious condition Monday after riding in a car that sped into a utility pole in at 1:49 a.m. Saturday at the Boulevard and Columbus Avenue.

And a driver of a red Mustang was charged with first-degree assault for allegedly plowing into three pedestrians at the Boulevard and Legion Avenue at 2:30 a.m. Saturday. One victim remained in critical condition Monday.

The same stretch of East Rock’s Lawrence Street where a mugging and a street assault this summer spurred calls for block watches was hit again this weekend: Two couples were robbed at gunpoint.

One couple was walking at 12:18 a.m. Sunday near Orange and Lawrence Streets. They said three teenagers, roughly 15 years old, approached them carrying a sawed-off shotgun. The teens fled with money and a cell phone.

Just one block away one day later, at 11:37 p.m. Sunday, another couple was walking on Foster Street near Lawrence when two men approached them, also with a sawed-off shotgun. The muggers took money and a cell phone and fled, according to Police Spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester.
