Reggae JAM and All-Star, hard-playing Sunday soccer-league teams from Jamaica and Africa, brought this year’s season on the Boulevard to a nail-biting close. Jamaican players like Kebran Moss Solomon thought they had the match in the bag.

This Sunday was the finals for this year’s tournament, which draws players from around the world, including three separate African teams. The two teams in Sunday’s finals went into overtime.

“I’ve been here over two hours and still no score,” said Edgar Miller, father of Jamaican team player.

Because neither team was able to score, the game resulted in penalty kicks. Each team had five tries to get the most shots. In the end the African team took home the trophy, beating the Jamaican team 4 to 2.

The Jamaican team was confident enough of victory that it had printed victory T-shirts before the match. Oh well. Kebran Moss Solomon of Reggae Jam said that the finals are filled with intensity, but players from both of the teams are still friends.

The African team’s winning strategy was to be more organized this year, according to team coach Papa Mbaye (at right in photo).

The Jamican team’s coach, Colin Lewis, said is not bitter about losing. They have had a team for only four years, and each year they have made it to the play-offs.

“Our team has done very well. A lot of teams never reach this far,” Lewis said. “Next year we will win.”
