Chatham Square Has Its First Fall Festival

Luis Cotto helped children paint pumpkins as apart of the festivities at Chatham Square’s first annual Fall Festival.
The park is a central green of sorts for a stretch of Fair Haven off Clinton Avenue. It has been spruced up over the years.
Many kids wore their Halloween costumes to the festival, such as 2-year-old princess Adriana Johnson (top) and 9-year-old Bride of Frankenstein Brianna Torres.
Other festival activities included horse-drawn hay rides, face painting, and relay races. There was a $1 raffle to win a candle and $25 C-Town and Ferraros gift certificates. Popcorn and apples were given away.
The center of Chatham Square had been known for its drug activity according to Mary Ann Moran, one of 12 festival organizers. (pictured at far right above with Breon Mills, Matt Morgan and Chris Arce). “We wanted to claim this park for the kids,” said Moran.

The fall festival ws a great event! It's great to see such a nice public space being reclaimed. One of the many reasons my wife and I moved to Fair Haven.

It was a great time out there! I hope all of this great stuff continues in Fair Haven. Like the pervious poster, it is also one of the main reasons my husband and I moved here.

Events like the Fall Festival are possible because committed and involved residents make them happen. Come meet your neighbors at the next Chatham Square Neighborhood Association on Wednesday November 15 at 5:30pm. We serve pizza and children are welcome. The meeting is at the Mary Wade Home, 118 Clinton Avenue (entrance on Pine St.) Help us celebrate a successful event and help plan the next event at Chatham Square.
