Class One: Why We Lost

Sean Smith is the guy on the right in the photo; at the time he was Joe Lieberman’s campaign manager and doing battle with Tom Swan (left) , his counterpart in the Lamont for Senate campaign. Lieberman lost the primary. He fired Smith. Now Smith has a new gig: teaching a political science course at Yale on “Modern Political Campaigns.” Click here to read Sarah Mishkin’s article in the Yale Daily. Meanwhile, there was good news for Lieberman Thursday in a new Zogby poll; click here for Independent Capitol correspondent Christine Stuart’s report. Lieberman has clearly been surging. Ned Lamont did get some good news of his own Thursday: former Republican politician, then independent lieutenant governor, Eunice Groark endorsed him. Lamont also released an ad (click here) with a hilarious “So do we!” kicker. And there was bad news for Jews: Lieberman decided to play the ethnic card on staunchly pro-Israel Lamont, as Jennifer Medina reports in this Times story.
