Lamont Decries “Bush-Partisanism”

Decrying Senator Joe Lieberman’s bipartisanism as “Bush-partisanism,” Democratic challenger Ned Lamont detailed his plans to reform Washington during a campaign stop in New Haven.

With time ticking down until the Nov. 7 election, Lamont focused on Lieberman-Bush ties in a speech at Southern Connecticut State University, where the senator had been grilled just a few days before.

Ever since Lieberman lost the Democratic primary to Lamont and began running as a petitioning third-party candidate, the three-term senator has stressed his skills as a bipartisan policy-maker in a land of “partisan politics.”

“What he doesn’t realize is that bipartisanship isn’t an end to itself — it’s only valuable as a means to solve the real problems of ordinary Americans” — such as lack of health care, said Lamont. Lamont attacked Lieberman for six pages of his speech, then gave about four pages of constructive reform, Including a ban on lobbyist’s gifts and creating “affordable” health care.

Also Tuesday, a dispute arose over whether Lieberman pads his resume as a ’60s civil-rights workers. Longtime New Haven civil-rights figure Hank Parker leveled that charge on Lamont’s behalf; when Lieberman swung back immediately, Lamont backtracked. Click here to read the Courant’s report.

OK reports are that Bogus Liberal Democrat Sen. Joe Lieberman defended his civil rights record, disputing a black Democratic group's charge he lied about his 1960s activism fighting segregation in the South.

Lieberman said he led a group of Yale students to Mississippi. He also recalled being part of the Washington, D.C., crowd at the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famed "I Have a Dream" speech in August 1963.

African American Political Pundit says: Whatever! No Joseph Lierberman you listened to Dr. Kings I have a Dream speech with thousands of other folks, including thousands of white student at the time. That make you no freedom fighter! You continue to use Martin Luther Kings name to get brownie points and use black pain , including blacks being murdered and beaten to get elected- shame on you. Shame on the folks that fall into your trap of I'm liberal today.

"What he doesn't realize is that bipartisanship isn't an end to itself — it's only valuable as a means to solve the real problems of ordinary Americans" — such as lack of health care, said Lamont. So well said. Bush has been a disaster for our nation and our world and as Lamont also says "Joe has been there to cheer him on every step of the way."

Bipartisanship requires two parties to participate - Bush/Cheney will accept bipartisanship -- if you always see it their way. Joe doesn't get it. Good job Ned.

I think Joe Liberman can be nailed on a great many things, but civil rights ain't one of them. If you want to really hit the nail on the head, ask him about affirmative action and how he had his arm twisted by the Congressional Black Caucus--to support the continued legislation. He is no friend to African Americans, but then again who is? The problem with Joe is he is willing to do anything to remain in office. Even bending over for the GOP, and that in and of itself is a telling state of affairs. This notion of independent democrats is a crock and he knows it. The real problem is that most American have no real idea about his record or that of his congressional collegeaus. And to make matters worse, Americans have so many other issues on their plates that the idea of spending time looking at candidate's records is a bit of a bother. So guess what?, politics is about what the masses don't know. And so he moves forward.
