Violence Outbreak Leaves Personal Tragedies

A rash of violent encounters, all apparently unrelated, left a common trail of poignant, sometimes irony-tinged personal tragedies Tuesday. A 14-year-old girl lay in a hospital bed after being shot shortly after moving to town. The son of a police commissioner was recovering from a shot to his throat in a robbery. A “cop of the week” (lower of the two pictures above) known for sharp-eyed snags of criminals was in the hospital with serious injuries after a car chase. And a volunteer who works with Dixwell kids, and spoke at a youth’s funeral this summer, now prepares to speak at his own son’s funeral.
