Watch Out, Dreamgirls

job%20corp%20graduation.jpgThursday was graduation day for young people grabbing a second chance at a promising life — at the Job Corps, by West Rock. It was a moving day for all involved. And it featured a version of the Star Spangled Banner, in three-party harmony, like none you’re ever heard before. (The stars of a certain new movie should watch out.) Click on the play arrow below to watch it. Please be patient: the anthem comes a bit more than two minutes into the clip. And click here for more footage of the event, including a pre-recorded version of Pachelbel’s Canon that might also blow your mind. (Note: If videos stop and start, press pause for a minute to allow them to load, then press start again.)

What is Tom Ficklin- a glorified camera guy? What exactly does he do other than run around town video-taping stuff? Sure, I guess its helpful. But for the amount of money he is paid--that could go back into their programs. Maybe it's me, I just don't see the point. And talking to other people--they think the same way. Sure some folks like him. But so what. Surely that money could be better spent on youth programming or other community based activities.
