East Rock Rocks Tumble Down; 12-year-old Girl Charged In Mugging

Remnants of a nighttime cascade of boulders — scratched asphalt and a branch — could be seen Wednesday on the road that winds around East Rock Park. At about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, a tree fell, dislodging three boulders, sending them rolling down steep terrain onto Farnam Road near East Rock Road, said city parks official Christy Hass. No one was injured by the falling rocks, but police had to close down a portion of the road to remove the boulders, which were too big for a human to lift without equipment.
In other public safety news, according to police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester:
Police arrested a 12-year-old girl from Meriden in connection to a mugging in the area of 56 Auburn Street at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday. … Police also arrested five young people who allegedly beat a kid up for his bicycle on Legion Avenue. Click here for the police department’s release.
Two feral dogs have been acting aggressively to people near Rockview Terrace, threatening a woman and a mailman. Be on the lookout for this description: “The male dog is described as a short-haired tan dog that weighs about 45 to 50 pounds and has white markings. The female, also a short-hair, is reddish-brown and weighs approximately 30 pounds.” Anyone who sees the dogs is asked to call the New Haven Police Department at 946-6316.
Two young teens, aged 13 or 14, attempted to mug someone at 3:44 p.m. outside 49 Brewster St. Tuesday in Newhallville. The assailants claimed to gave a gun but did not succeed in mugging the person.
A 20-year-old man showed up at the hospital Tuesday evening with a knife wound to the abdomen. He told police he had stopped to fix his car at 7:06 p.m. at Jewel and Blake Streets when a masked man with a knife approached him and demanded his wallet. He told police he fought back and was stabbed in the process.

The rocks falling has always been my biggest fear driving down that road :0
I would like to thank you for posting the youth crime. People seem to be blinded by the serious crimes kids have been doing. "that's only on TV". And because they are youths the crimes does not get alot of press. But to show that these kids are in a bad way and are doing these things can help get the proper programs out there. The ones that are geared twords kids that have no interest in sports the ones that have not been exposed to arts and music in a positive way and have no clue as to how to be part of these programs, who parents will not take that second of time to get them in those programs.
