Dillon: Don’t Double-Whammy City Ratepayers

by Staff | February 20, 2007 5:17 PM | | Comments (0)

New Haven State Rep. Pat Dillon testified before the legislature’s Energy Committee Tuesday on behalf of her proposal to stop United Illuminating from passing along to ratepayers the cost of moving its headquarters out of New Haven.

Dillon praised UI’s new management and blamed previous management for wanting to stiff its home city. But, she said, “unfortunately the decision to leave appears to be on track. It’s unfair to New Haven ratepayers, who already face a 50 percent rate increase, to subsidize a move,” especially since the city has so much property off the tax rolls.

UI testified, meanwhile, that the bill would ” severely hinder UI’s, or any other regulated company’s, ability to analyze, manage and control its operating expenses for the benefit of all its customers and ratepayers.” Click here to read UI’s full statement.
