“Voice” Silenced
by Paul Bass | February 5, 2007 5:06 PM | Permalink | Comments (7)
They didn’t even wait for Al Franken to go off the air. Clear Channel Communications, which owns the local radio stations (like WELI) that once upon a time reported local news with local humans, announced that it has pulled the plug on “The Voice,” its low-watt syndicated liberal talk-radio station at 1300 AM. It has replaced it with ESPN. WELI retains its Cro-Magnon right-wing syndicated hate-talk line-up.

"Hate-talk"? That's all liberals talk about. You hate Bush, you hate conservatives, Big Oil, Big Pharmaceuticals, Catholics, Fundamentalists, pro-lifers, opponents of Castro, opponents of embryonic stem cell research, the United States of America, capitalism, individual responsibility, an on an on.

I like how he just couldn't resist mentioning Castro.

Dear Conservative in the Wilderness,
We hate you, too.
Feel better?

Conservative in the Wilderness. I love love love!
I would love to see peace in this world -- peace not obtained through war.
I would love to see Bush tried for war crimes.
Bt most of all, I would love to see you get mauled by a bear while you are out wandering in the wilderness.

Dear CitW:
Yeah, we hate Bush, and yeah, we hate conservatives. We hate them because they are destroying the country we love - the USA - by shitting all over the principles it was founded on.
As for the others on your list, while it's true that I do have issues with some of them, I wouldn't say I "hate" any of them. Especially not Catholics, since I have so many of them in my family.
You, however, I do hate, because you are a liar. Your own post demonstrates that clearly. So piss off, whydontcha.
(And as an aside, I have to laugh at the irony of being lectured on "individual responsibility" by a buffoon who supports the president, a man who has never taken responsibility for anything in his life. Thanks for the chuckle, jerk.)

The only things I hate on his list are Bush, Fundamentalists, pro-lifers, and opponents of embryonic stem cell research becuase they are all so obviously wrong and extremely arrogant. Conservatives love to slander liberals and accuse them of hating things they really don't, for example our troops in Iraq. It seems to me that the best way to support our troops would be to get them out of that God-forsaken country.

As a former reporter for WELI (which is now under the umbrella of Clear Channel) I am outraged by the loss of "The Voice" and the loss of local news and public affairs because of an out-of-state media conglomerate. Finally we Liberals had a place to hear talk other than right-wing hate speech. And that is what most right-wingers are, hate-mongers...I actually get agita listening to the likes of Michael Savage and Limbaugh; and they also lie. I believe it is people such as these who have made our country so divided. WAVZ (for which I also worked as a sales rep) never gave progressive talk a chance. I called the station a number of times because there was double tracking on the hour. It was as if no one was monitoring the station. I don't think CC gave it a chance. The Limbaughs of the world had two decades to make inroads into radio to establish a solid audience base. I remember the days when one could actually hear and participate in discussions on talk radio, Jerry Dunklee and John Birchard. Oh for the good old days...
I am sorry to say I won't be listening to talk on new haven station...I've found one that runs Stephanie Miller (WLIS in Old Saybrook) and I may just get SIRIUS until some wise local radio executive recognizes there is a need for Progressive talk in this intelligent and progressive state.
