Even as he announced bringing a “dream team” to town (with a no-bid contract) to “restore confidence” in his scandal-plagued police department, Mayor John DeStefano continued to insist he has no responsibility for the systemic breakdowns that allowed corrupt cops to allegedly steal cash and take bribes until a sweeping FBI investigation stopped them. Police Commissioner Chris DePino said he won’t vote or participate in deliberations about the FBI’s bribery and theft probe of city narcotics cops because of a second hat he wears — Capitol lobbyist. Click here to read more.
Det. Justen Kasperzyk — one of two narcotics cops arrested in the bubbling theft, bribery, and gambling scandal — allegedly broke down an innocent man’s door in the Hill after a wild chase one day. Now Kasperzyk’s own front door is at risk: A local lawyer (pictured) has asked a federal judge to secure the 34-year-old detective’s Killingworth home so he can pay back over $500,000 in damages to the man he arrested.
