Alleged Sexual Assaulter Arrested

A 48-year-old New Haven man was arrested Sunday on charges of first-degree sexual assault for digital penetration of a nine-year-old girl.

Read on for more details on recent crime, according to police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester.

A home at 177 Ward St. in the Hill went up in flames Sunday before 3 p.m. No injuries reported.

A city woman was walking on College Street near North Frontage Road at 2:20 a.m. Saturday when a man approached her with a gun and threatened to kill her if she didn’t give up her money. She gave him $18; he left.

A tow truck was stopped at the light at Howard and Columbus Avenues in the Hill at 11:53 p.m. Saturday when someone jumped in the cab, pushed a hard object in the driver’s ribs, and demanded cash from the driver, obtaining a sum of cash.

Two men rushed into 187 Exchange St. in Fair Haven Saturday evening and stole money from somebody’s pockets.

A man at 1586 Chapel St. was tied up, forced to the floor and shot at two times Saturday at 4:30 p.m. One bullet grazed his head.
