“Dream Team” Gets Green Light

IMG_7732.JPGExperts will soon fly into New Haven to examine the police department in the wake of the narcotics theft and bribery scandal, according to a $130,000 contract approved by city aldermen.

The PERF “dream team” audit was sped along through the Board of Aldermen by unanimous consent Monday.

Aldermanic President Carl Goldfield welcomed the external review. “It’s healthy to have someone from the outside come in and look at what’s going on,” not just because of the scandal, but as a general review of operations, he said.

Before approval, Foxon Alderman Robert Lee, who did not attend the aldermanic briefing on the topic, inserted an amendment calling for more aldermanic oversight of the contract. His amendment, which was approved, called for a public hearing before the full aldermanic board, to be held before the second half of the six-month contract proceeds.
