“I’m a Pimp! I’m a Pimp!”

It looked like Halloween, as Yale students humiliated themselves on the streets of New Haven as part of being “tapped” for admission to secret societies.

The parade Thursday night of costumed hookers, grim reapers, oversized babies and other Yalies being inducted into exclusive senior societies like Skull & Bones and Scroll & Key added a Rocky Horror feel to Elm and Chapel streets.

One young man called out, “I’m a Pimp! I’m a Pimp!” from the corner of Broadway and York. Click on the play arrow above to watch him talk about why he was willing to put himself through that.

Tap%20Night.jpgMeanwhile, one of his Yalie “ho”s “solicited” customers.

Part of the game, apparently, was to make up names of fake societies, or pretend they’re not senior societies, when passers-by asked what the costumed tap-ees were up to.

The “pimp” of Broadway admitted he felt embarrassed, but said the hazing was worth it. “I’m not an idiot,” he said. He took a philosophical approach to his one-night stand as a sex trafficker, “I feel like after I graduate I’m going to be pimping somebody.”

Wow, that last sentence says it all. Is this the best that one the wealthiest, most prestigious universities can aspire: turning out graduates who see thier futures as "pimping somebody"?

In all fairness, not all societies take part in these ostentatious displays. In fact, the groups that Paul mentioned in this article certainly do not.

HAH!

Your chivalrous defense of S+B is both comical and touching.

If not ostentatious, what would you call stealing the skull of Geronimo?...further, are the initiation rights considered modest because only one masturbating person can fit inside of a coffin?

HAH!
