Yappy-Headed Joe
by Paul Bass | April 13, 2007 9:17 AM | Permalink | Comments (14)
As radio shock-jock Imus finally got the boot for calling Rutgers basketball stars “nappy-headed hos,” one of his longtime enablers, Connecticut U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (pictured), finally issued a public statement about his longtime friend’s remarks. Sort of.
Lieberman (CFL-CT) has long enjoyed getting boosts from visits to the openly racist Imus show, as he has with even more over-the-edge hate-radio jock Bob Grant, on whom he showered praise. (Grant regularly refers to African-Americans as “savages”; he’s also cruel to gays.) But the recent flap over Imus forced regular famous guests who never expressed a problem with him in the past to take some kind of stand. Lieberman has never previously felt a need to comment on any of Imus’s or Grant’s slurs against blacks or gays. (On the other hand, he did criticize Bill Clinton for sexual indiscretions with an intern. He also regularly blasted makers of violent video games.)
Can you figure out Lieberman’s new “stand”? Read the statement he issued to the press Thursday, then click here to comment. (And click here for a Courant story on local NAACP leader Scot X. Esdaile’s reaction to Lieberman’s and fellow Connecticut U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd’s remarks.)
Lieberman’s press-release statement: “”Don Imus’ comments were deeply offensive. He is right to apologize and strive to make amends. Because he is a friend and I know he is a better person than his remarks would suggest, I will continue to appear on his show. Don’s task now is to heal the wounds that he opened by his hurtful comments about the young women on the Rutgers basketball team.”

Joe and Imus had a reciprocal enabling relationship, one feeding off the other's notoriety.
You may remember Lowell Wicker gave Imus his street creds in the political world...before that Imus generally just degraded women, advertisers and local reporters.
But I digress...I am ashamed that the voters of Connecticut reelected Lieberman. We will have to bear with this for another six years, a man who truly does not represent the will of the people.

Paul that is the funniest headline I've read in ages!

It's rather ironic that Senator Lieberman has announced he will continue appearing on the Imus show on the same day that CBS canceled the show. If so much of the country, including many of CBS's major advertisers, found this incident offensive enough to cut all ties to this show, why didn't our Senator? After all, he has gone out of his way in the past to condemn the media for its vulgarity.

Perhaps if Imus said disrespectful things about Jews perhaps Lieberman would atleast acknowledge that its all hate language.

Given the positions apposed by the article and those commenting on same, I can't imagine how you can maintain any meaningful relationship. I suppose it would have been better (from your perpective) had Joe cut bait and left a friend (whom he did have a "reciprocal enabling relationship" with) after having determined that relationship could no longer offer any political benefit. It may be called by some as a relationship of political convenience, I however call it politics at its worse--or maybe i should just call it Chris Dodd.
I suppose it all becomes clear on where the hypocrisy within our culture festers--or at worse orginates. With friends like those who needs enemies.

Lieberman also appeared on the Pat Robertson show. Robertson is the nut job who collects fistfulls of cash on infomercials where he attacks gays and women and called for the CIA to assassinate Hugo Chavez. When Joe was on the show, Robertoson said something about not normally getting along with Jews, but that he has a lot in common with Lieb.

You'z a Ho by Ludacris
You'z a Ho, (Ho)
You'z a Ho, I said that you'z a Ho (Ho)
You doing Ho activities
With Ho tendencies
Hos are your friends, Hos are your enemies
With ho energy to do what you do
Blew what cha blew, screw what cha screw
Y'all professional like DJ Clue,
pulling on my coat tail
And why you think you take a Ho to a Ho-tel
Ho-tell everybody, even the mayor
Reach up in the sky for the Ho-zone layer
Now C'mon playa wants a Ho always
And Ho's neva close, they open like hallways
So here's the whole cake for your Ho Ho crew
And everybody wants some, cuz Ho's gotta eat too'
Where is Sharpton on this? You know, if a dinosaur like Imus making that comment is the biggest issue facing blacks in the USA, well I'll be damned, the civil rights situation in this country is in pretty good shape. Why dont these farce 'black leaders' speak out against the vile self-hatred that permeates the black hip hop industry and the artists who sell out women of the black community to make hundreds of millions of dollars, polluting the culture and perpetually holding back the progress of black people.

Maybe Sen Lieberman was dizzied by the quantity of Imus articles published on pages 1-11 of the major dailies and he should have just gone directly to page 12 to read about the disruptively explosive bomb set off in the Iraq Parlament (suppposedly the safest space inside of the safest place in the country) Any second thoughts about this profiteers' war Sen Lieberman?

Big Deal! Who cares about Imus's remarks. Black rap folk sing about and say worse everyday. There is also so many anti-white statements that do not grab national attention like this has. Did anyone see the first episode of THE WEDDING BELLS? In the prime time TV series (its debut show) a black musician tells a white lady to GET HER BONEY WHITE ASS OUT OF HERE. Come on?! Wheres the uproar! That show was on at 9:00pm and not some crappy am radio station. Another double standard by the black man.

The reason these two race baiting poverty pimps never go after rappers is simple, going after people like Imus and their parent corporations is a much more financially profitable venture. Jesse Jackson's exploits on this front are well documented in a book called "Shakedown: Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson".
I have not read anything about Sharpton shaking down large businesses but he has shown himself to be a hypocrite in my opinion. On more than one occasion Rev. Sharpton has defended violent and misogynistic lyrics in Rap music as protected under the first amendment:
http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0503/09/ltm.03.html
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,154664,00.html
I guess the rotund reverend would have been just peachy keen if Imus had rapped his comments.
If these two really cared about anything but shaking down corporations and primping and preening themselves for the cable news shows they would be front and center in places like New Haven where innocent children are being gunned down on their front steps by urban terrorists.
In conclusion, as an American who happens to be of African descent, I would like to quote a character from the show "South Park" who summed up my feelings on both Jackson and Sharpton succinctly:
"Jesse Jackson is not the emperor of black people!"

For your information, Rev Sharpton has long since lead a boycott of the Rap Music Industry. If you people would spend some time reading and analyzing information rather than just talking shit you might learn something. There has been a 2-year long movement. But the media has not deemed it necessary to cover it. African American Sororites and Fraternies , Churches and other Freedome fighting organizations have been on the forefront of this issue. But of course you would have to be pludgged into Black media to be in the know, which I daresay a great many of you are not. So before you go race-baiting Rev Sharpton and Rev Jackson, check yourself. And when was the last time any of you bought a heavy metal cd or a hard rock cd, same thing there. The difference with that music is that is White folks making that type of music and that goes unchallenged. The reality is Imus fucked-up, he isn't the first and he certainly won't be the last. The power is in the hands of the people. If the Corporations pull their ad dollars then of course CBS and MSNBC had no choice to fire him. This is more about what sells than what is morally right. Sex sells everyday, violence against women sells, racism sells. And we all are partners in the support of hate language and anti-women, anti-human words, deeds and actions..
So while you are spending your enegry worrying about Rev Sharpton and Jackson are doing, pick up a pen and write to the music companies your damned selves and let your voice be heard. Posting here isn't heard by the record execs.

Paul: Please allow me to tell Pinkbicycle that J. Donald Imus has aimed his vitrol at Jews, as well as Hispanics, Gays and everyone else, not just African-Americans. That person owes Joe Lieberman an apology for saying that perhaps if Imus denegrated Jews, Lieberman would pay more attention.
As far as The Reverend Al is concerned, if he had been leading a serious campaign against the lyrics of rappers and the prattle of comics using ellow African-Americans, especially women, as fodder, why did he say last week that he was using the Imus episode to start a campaign against this intramural badspeak? He certainly would have said that to Bill Maher during their interview late last week. C'mon now, Pinkbicycle, give the guy his props. There is no way that The Reverend Al does anything without the press covering it. If Mr. Sharpton does follow up on his pledge made last week, I'll be the first to stand up and cheer.

PinkBike, you pathetic! You compared heavy metal songs (that sing about what? they dont use the "N" word nor do they refer to whites as dirty crackers). I dont see your point?! As far as Sharpton the pimp and Jesse the ladys man, they are boycotting rap music? Whoopie Doo! I guess they didnt find it okay just to boycott Imus. No, they had to make sure he got fired and lost his job. Black rappers sing about a lot more horrific things and refer to their own as N's all day and rap about shhting cops, raping black women, and slinging crack like its a cheeseburger. But thats okay, we'll just boycott them. YOUR PATHETIC. Get your head out of your you know what. Dont follow these leaders like they even care about you. they dont
