East Rock Sees Rash of Thefts

East Rock Alderman Roland Lemar reports a rash of thefts, burglaries and robberies in the East Rock area:
“We have had a number of break-ins to homes in the Clark/Pearl/Pleasant/Humphrey area and a few isolated cases in the Edwards/Nash Street area.
“We have had a number of stolen bikes/scooters and car break-ins throughout the neighborhood, more prevalently on and near to State Street.
“We have a had 4 muggings along Edwards/Humphrey and Willow Streets. The suspects in the muggings have the following profile - Two african-american youths, aged 14-18, one with a stocky build, the other with a typical build. The suspects have been particularly aggressive when challenged so a call to the police is preferred if you witness suspicious/illegal behaviour.
“The three Alderman from the affected area (Ed Mattison and Michael Smart and I) have requested and received additional support from our District Manager, Rebecca Sweeney, and we will have a number of special units patrolling the area over the coming weeks (including plain clothes officers, routine drive-through patrols and highly-visible walking beats/patrol beats).
“Please report any suspicious behaviour to the police non-emergency line 946-6316 or call our District Manager at 946-7572 or on her cell phone during the day at 410-7400.”
In other news, according to police spokeswoman Bonnie Posick:
“A city man was arrested and charged with theft of a credit card, larceny in the sixth degree and illegal use of a credit card after he stole a woman’s wallet. The woman pursued him from Temple Street to Crown Street, where he threw the wallet into the street and fled.
“[A 40-year-old man] of 1382 State Street, was arrested after police put out a broadcast and he was spotted by Sergeant Douglas Harkins in the area of Crown Street near High Street. Rice was detained and charged with the theft.”
