Common Ground Found On Hooker School

Allan%20Brison.jpgPartisans on both sides of the Worthington Hooker School fight are taking up Green Party aldermanic candidate Allan Brison’s call for compromise — including Ed Mattison, the man Brison (at left in photo) hopes to unseat. Isn’t this how democracy is supposed to work?

Under Brison’s compromise, both sides would agree to abide by an upcoming State Supreme Court ruling on plans for a new school building on Whitney Avenue. Neither side would pursue a challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court, and opponents wouldn’t lobby state legislators or city aldermen to cut funding.

An Independent item about Brison’s proposed truce, which he has been promoting through leaflets in the 10th Ward, drew kudos posted by both supporters of the new school plan as well as opponents.

Click here to read the reaction, including Mattison “applauding” his opponent; and add your voice.

“I pledge that to the extent I have any capacity to make a difference, I will support Allan’s idea,” Mattison wrote in part, “and I thank him for coming up with it.”
