Starchitect Lord Foster To Build At Yale

Lord Norman Foster, the man who brought this icy tower to the NYC skyline and the fantastical Milleau Viaduct to France, has been chosen to design a new Yale building on Whitney Avenue.
Foster + Partners will build the Yale School of Management’s new campus on Whitney Avenue near the intersection of Sachem Street. 155 Whitney is expected to be torn down to make way for the new construction. News of the selection was announced to students at a meeting on Sept. 4.
Yale’s Office of Public Affairs and Lord Norman Foster’s firm declined comment on the choice, but a student at the meeting confirmed the selection.
Foster, a Brit who got his Masters in Architecture from Yale in 1962, is known for daring designs across the world, including the Beijing airport, the Millenium Bridge in London and the Millenium Tower in Tokyo. Click here to view his stunning portfolio.

huh?
Didn't yale just spend 2 years lifting 155 into the air, repositioning it and then rebuilding it board by board. What gives?

ROBN, that's the one across the street, 158 Whitney. 155 is the old 1950's looking thing.

It's a bit mind blowing just how much building Yale is going to do in the next 5-10 years!!

Thanks pedro!
So I guess this means that the SOM campus is proposed to be constructed right next door to the New Haven Lawn Club. HMMM? Given "Lord" Fosters notoriously arrogant "I don't give a shit about the neighbors" attitude, this ought to be interesting to watch.

Foster used to produce intelligent architecture...I can't exactly recall when...it was a while ago... (and I am sure it had nothing to do with his architectural "education" at Yale). Hopefully, he has hired some good employees that he can utilize for this project (I drive down Whitney frequently and I'd hate to see something like the picture above). (Yes, the Milleau Viaduct looks great. But, we have seen it many times before on a smaller scale.)
Please, for the love of the Queen, do something great oh Lord.

I'll give him credit...he's always been exceptional with low-rise architecture;;;high rise, not so much. So unless SOM is getting ready to uncork a 50 story job, we're probably OK. In any event, I'm sure that the Lincoln Street neighbors will keep the "Lord" in line.

The University has gone back to the drawing board for the new MCDB building on Whitney (where the parking lots are at Whitney and Humphrey)and it was said that it was in reaction to neighbors rejection of the huge modern building that was not in keeping with the architecture and feel of Whitney Ave. Can't wait to see how this one plays out.
