Security Guard Tied Up; Scrap Metal Yard Robbed

A 61-year-old security guard was sitting in a car outside the Bixon & Sons scrap metal yard at 808 Washington Ave. early Monday morning when two robbers snuck up out of the darkness. They tied him up, stole his money, and proceeded to break into and ransack the company. The guard broke free after about 20 to 30 minutes, at 2:10 a.m., and called police.

Three juvenile girls were outside 73 Melrose Drive at 2:06 p.m. Sunday when a teenager came up threatened them with a box cutter and said “give up your scooter.” When they refused, he demanded money. One of the girls escaped and told her mom, who called the cops. The perp fled empty-pocketed.

A man was assaulted by two teens with a gun at Flint and Weybosset Streets at 2:47 p.m. Saturday.

A 22-year-old man was found on Stevens Street at 9:12 p.m. Sunday with a gunshot wound to abdomen.

And at 1:01 a.m. Friday, police found Sherwin Alonzo Venable, age 40, in a vehicle outside 17 Rosette Street. He had been shot multiple times. He died from the injuries.
