A “Howl” From The Compost Heap

Amazing: Fifty years ago a great court victory allowed a publisher to sell Allen Ginberg’s collection called Howl and Other Poems. And now FCC-inspired self-censorship has accomplished what federal censors failed to do back then: Fearful of fines, a public-radio station, WBAI, decided not to air a commemorative reading. Click on the play arrow above for an end-run around the censors, on the latest edition of the New Haven Independent’s v-log news summary, direct from our compost heap — er, newsroom. Click here for past compost reports. (Click here to download a recording of the late Ginsberg reading the poem “Howl.”)

Awful poetry. Unpoetry. Why they call it "Howl." Not a victory for free speech. A victory for bad writing. (sigh)

Randolph
I found it to be WONDERFUL, I felt it! It was real! Poetry is meant to excite! It is meant to move you!

The weight of the world is love.
Under the burden of solitude,
under the burden of dissatisfaction the weight,
the weight we carry is love.

Beat is similar to todays rant this is straight from the heart stuff! Bravo for the reading Paul! You should do a reading like this every week! Enjoyed it!
