A baby was sleeping inside a bedroom at 89 Monroe St. in Fair Haven when two bullets burst into the room at 8:49 p.m. Wednesday.

Read on for more details, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery.

The baby wasn’t hit, neither was the intended target. A witness told police the shooter might have been a resident’s ex-boyfriend. A 9-year-old was also in the house at the time of the shooting. No one was hurt.

A man told police he was approached by four males on bikes at 636 Congress Ave. at 11:32 p.m. Wednesday, and robbed of his money and jewelry.

A 35-year-old ex-New Haven resident has pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Judge Peter C. Dorsey to an indictment charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon — click here for details.

And police have arrested a 30-year-old Eldert Street man on charges of illegal sale of
firearms, according to city spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga. Police say the man legally purchased a number of firearms throughout the state with a Connecticut pistol permit, then resold the guns on the streets of New Haven.

He was arrested on 10 counts of Illegal Sale/Transfer of a Pistol, Aiding and Abetting, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Aiding and Abetting Altercation of Firearm Identification Marks and Falsely Reporting an Incident. He was held on a $250,000 court set bond.

East Rock Auto Theft Alert

East Rock has seen a rash of car thefts, according to District Manager Sgt. Rebecca Sweeney:

“Unfortunately we have had an increase in thefts from autos in East Rock. For example, for the week of October 7 to October 13 we were hit 11 times! We were hit 5 times on Sunday October 7! We were hit 3 times on Sunday October 13! 7 of these incidents were car stereos, 3 were GPS systems, and 1 was parts on an older Honda. I have begun distributing courtesy cards in the area to remind people to secure their valuables. I have notified all my shifts to increase their patrol in the area. I have also notified Yale Pd who always does such a great job in assisting us. I have also spoken to the Auto Theft Task Force regarding the increase. Please e-mail your people to let them know to secure their valuables, park in well lit areas and ocasionally check their vehicles if parked for a long time!”
