New Haven jazz lovers can catch two sides of one of the scene’s pioneers, David Chevan. Saturday night he’s doing a straight-ahead set with pianist Joe McWilliams and guitarist Gary Grippo starting at 6 at Humphrey’s East, whose new owners are bringing jazz back to the restaurant. Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Chevan will wave his baton for his students in the SCSU Creative Music Orchestra, at the Charles Garner Recital Hall in Engleman Hall C-115.
