Bullets Fly; “Carjackee” Lies

A woman wasn’t carjacked early Wednesday. But she said she was. At first.

According to police spokesman Joe Avery, the 20-year-old woman called the cops at 2:19 a.m. from Kimberly Avenue. She said two men had just taken her car from her, at gunpoint.

But it turned out the car in question had been seized an hour earlier, in Fair Haven, according to Avery; it had been involved in a hit-and-run accident. When the cops put the two incidents together, the woman “finally admitted to lying to protect her boyfriend,” who’d been driving it in Fair Haven, Avery said. The cops arrested the woman on charges of falsely reporting an incident.

Meanwhile, police received a call around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday about bullets flying on Newhall Street. Neighbors confirmed that two groups of teen males on bikes had been shooting at each other and fled the scene. The police have no suspects; no shellcasings were found at the scene.

IMG_6848.JPGAlso in Newhallville, Larry Livingston (at right in photo) has arrested for allegedly continuing to run his Taurus Cafe on Winchester Avenue as an illegal after-hours bar. The state denied renewal of the Taurus’s liquor license in June. (Click here to read a story about that.) Livingston couldn’t be reached for comment.

New Haven’s Liveable City Initiative (LCI) office handled the matter. Mayoral spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga said, “Larry Livingston was served with a zoning cease and desist order in
August re: illegal after-hours establishment. He continued to operate after the 10-day period given to him to cease and desist. We got a warrant for his arrest from the State Attorney’s Office and he was served this past Friday. He posted bond and reopened on Saturday. At
this point, [LCI officials] need to meet with the State Attorney to determine where we go from here.”
