Gone Dishin’ For Neighborhoods

Neighborhood Housing Services celebrated a milestone anniversary and launched their latest Neighborhood Revitalization Campaign at the New Haven Lawn Club. All of the neighborhoods that have enjoyed the major impacts and stabilization, as a result of the organization’s work, turned out in force: Beaver Hills, Dixwell/Newhallville, Dwight/Edgewood, Fair Haven, the Hill, West River and Hamden were all in the wonderful grand ballroom. The evening was New Haven at its finest with everyone Dishin’ -new homeowners, city officials and residents were rubbing elbows and totally engaged with corporate neighbors, funders, community activists and philanthropists.

It was a paradigm for public-private partnerships and friendships. The incredible food, service and facilities of the Lawn Club amplified the festivities (the refrain of It’s Not Your Daddy’s Lawn Club was ringing in my ears!)

Nadiine Herring, Board President and Carol Anastasio, attended to the business of the meeting; the mayor arrived to extend his salutations to the assemblage. Master of Ceremonies, Dr. James Paley, Executive Director of NHS, stole the show with his presentation of past successes and future plans.
It has been quite a month for Paley; he recently received the Connecticut Housing Coalition’s annual award for leadership through the development of 373 units of affordable housing, helping 210 first-time home buyers and 475 other buyers achieve their dream, and assisting in the creation of six block watches or neighborhood-based associations. They represent “Best Practices” in their holistic approach.

Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven has embarked on an innovative Neighborhood Revitalization Campaign, the latest effort to bring together partners to implement new strategies in stabilizing New Haven’s neighborhoods. The Campaign is comprised of three initiatives: the creation of a Home Improvement and Energy Conservation Laboratory; the development of a Home Maintenance and Energy Conservation IDA Program; and the implementation of a Revitalization Demonstration Project. Taken together, these initiatives combine the best national models with local experience to bring the most effective neighborhood stabilization and revitalization strategies to New Haven. The Campaign will allow NHS to mount its most ambitious effort yet to comprehensively revitalize New Haven’s neighborhoods.
The Dishin’ was divine , the company was magnificent, the repast was sensational!
Can you believe what a treat it is to be engaged in working….”All for the Greater Good!”

"All for the Greater Good!" You're kidding - right? How do I get one of those "special" loans like Ms.Brooks?
