A 24-year-old man who was shot while driving on Ella Grasso Boulevard died at Yale-New Haven Hospital Sunday morning around 7 a.m.

Here’s what happened, according to Detective Sgt. Marc Calafiore:

The man, Eric Couvertier, was driving his Acura northbound on the Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. A driver pulled up alongside him, apparently on the right. Either the driver or someone else in his car shot several bullets at Couvertier’s car. The bullets missed Couvertier’s passenger; one of the bullets hit Couvertier in the head. He was taken in the hospital, where he was pronounced dead Sunday morning.

“It doesn’t appear that it was just a random shooting,” Calafiore said Sunday night. He said the investigation remained in the “early stages.”
