Colville Sentenced

Local peace activist Stephen Kobasa sent in this update:

Mark Colville of the Amistad Catholic Worker in New Haven was sentenced today - along with six others - for recreating the Nisoor Square massacre at the entrance to Blackwater USA’s headquarters in North Carolina this past October. He faces the most severe consequences because of so-called “damage” to the corporation logo displayed there with a 45 day suspended jail sentence, 12 months unsupervised probation, $450 restitution, and possible fine and court fees. The others all faced somewhat lesser variants of those punishments. Because the court offered nothing approaching due process, the seven activists have filed an appeal, and are presently free. Their next appearance in court is not expected for at least six months. Further details - including suggestions for actions in support of them - will follow.”
