A taxi driver showed up to collect someone at 70 Clinton Ave. at 8:37 p.m. Tuesday. Here’s what happened, according to police:

The “patron” didn’t get in the back— he opened the driver’s side door. He simulated a gun and demanded cash or he would “blow the driver’s head off.” The cabbie turned over some cash.

The subject fled in a Dodge Durango. The cabbie followed the Durango and called in the plate number and location to the cops. Cops caught up with the Durango and arrested a 39-year-old man for the robbery.

Also Tuesday, according to police:

Fair Haven Robbery Arrest

The robber took his mp3 player and cell phone. Cops caught up with a suspect on Chapel Street. The suspect, who’s 20, fled and was arrested on Saltonstall.

Hit and Run

A car crashed into a telephone pole at Quinnipiac and East Grand Aves at 6:40 p.m. The driver fled the scene and traffic was held up while the pole was stabilized.

C'mon people. Take those damn things out of your ears. You can be followed for blocks, have 1, 2, 3, 12 people dance behind you just waiting for you to get to a less populated area, an ATM or worse yet home unlocking your front door and you'd be clueless.

That last thing you want to do when not desiring to be victimized is effectively kill one of your 5 senses.

Why not cuff your hands behind your back and blindfold yourself while you're at it?

As long as you live like this will never happen to you or pretend that muggings and assaults are just part of some "city culture" and hence perfectly acceptable you're a rabbit in a lion habitat. You don't have to be an armed rabbit or even a trained rabbit. At least be an alert rabbit.

Just another example of some outstanding police work by the dedicated members of the NHPD.
