An Orchard Street man was arrested near the Yale campus Sunday. Cops say he broke into a parked vehicle on College Street near Chapel Street. His target was a GPS system and a digital camera.

In other crime news, according to police:

Stolen Car Chase

Early Sunday, at 6:46 a.m., Officer Acosta noticed two tan Hondas speeding down Dover Street towards Clinton Avenue. He tried to stop the cars, but they zoomed by. Acosta caught up with them, pursuing them to a parking lot at Front Street and Del Rio Drive.

One of the Hondas had been stolen from Fairfield. Acosta arrested two juveniles for allegedly driving without a license, engaging the officer in pursuit and car theft.

Garage Break-In

John Montesano rushed to his J.M Montesano garage at 390 Lombard St. at 12:32 a.m. Tuesday. A burglar alarm was going off. At the garage, cops found a plexiglass window had been kicked in. It looked like trespassers had broken into the building, but when cops searched the building, they were nowhere to be seen.

Montesano did an inventory: He noticed a recycling bin sitting at the front door next to two tires with chrome rims. The bin didn’t belong to him, he said.

Leaving a GPS and digital camera visible in your vehicle is a very bad idea. Bordering on stupid. It's a shame that that's the way it is, but I've lived from Hartford to Bombay and have never been in a location where I would leave expensive consumer electronics visible in a car. Yes, people shouldn't be dirtbags and steal, but you don't have to go around tempting them, either.
